Presentation into GBS/CIDP delivered 21st April 2013
Below is the presentation to the GBSSG (UK) on the 21st of April 2013. This shows a subset of the results from the total survey:
Interesting findings to highlight from the above presentation
The interesting results were:
- IVIG is the optimum treatment for most people with GBS or CIDP, though timings, dosage and other medicines required need to be considered very carefully and have a significant impact
- CIDP affects more areas of the body consistantly
- 80% of people considered themselves Active or Fairly Active (which is way over the levels expected) - there must be a link between this and getting either GBS or CIDP - further work should be performed to understand this
- Though we are told that over 80% of people contracting GBS will recover to lead a "normal" life, this doesn't mean they will be back to anywhere near original health/capability levels. Also the actual differences in getting back to work are not that significantly different between GBS & CIDP
