Treatments Recommended
Treatments Recommended
The table to the right shows the main different treatments recommended for patients with GBS or CIDP. Along with the pie-charts below which show the same figures but in a different format.
What these show is that IVIG is the most recommended treatment, Steroids and Immuno-Suppresants are recommended to more to people with CIDP. What I find interesting is the number of people who were recommended no treatments, as surely something should be recommended (or is that because like me after my initial attack treatments were discussed, but none recommended, so I didn't have any, but after my relapse either IVIG or Steroids were)?
The most important factor from the above is that for each GBS patient 1.24 treatments were recommended and for each CIDP patient the number is 1.96 so the actual number of treatments is twice the number of people. This skews the numbers from the table quite considerably, therefore the percentage charts below are much better. To me this shows the doctors/consultants are much less sure which treatment to administer for CIDP than GBS.

The two graphs below show the results for GBS & CIDP in relation to the different parts of the world. The results that stand out to me are:
- For GBS:
- In the US Plasma is slightly higher and none is very low
- In the UK IVIG is slightly higher and Steroids/plasma lower - yet no treatments is also the highest
- For CIDP:
- In the ROW I.S. is more likely to be recommended
- In the UK Steroids is higher and there are no patients recommended for no treatments
