Holiday to Jersey
As a family we decided to visit Jersey (Channel Island) for a holiday in April 2012. It is a place we know very well as we honeymooned there 27 years previously and had visited on quite a few occasions. Again it was a case of going to somewhere we were familiar with so we knew what to expect and therefore what I was capable of.
The people and attractions on Jersey were brilliant, especially the hotel (The Samere's Coast), the War Tunnels and Gerald Durrell Zoo, where I could use a wheelchair or a motorised scooter - see the front page. There was no way I could have got round these places without.
The hotel had an indoor pool which I made full use of every morning just to try and get some exercise and my legs working, though I couldn't do much. It was still great just to be able to do something.

I set myself a goal of walking the causeway to Corbierre, a lighthouse of the western tip of the island.
This was about half a mile and you could take plenty of time to do it (which was essential to me as fast was not an option)!
It was a massive struggle and really wiped me out for the rest of that day and all the next. Not only did I have to stop multiple times on the causeway, which thankfully was flat, the slopes at either end were a nightmare. My son nearly had to carry me up the one at the far end and how I got back I do not know (apart from will-power and massive assistance from all my family). But..
I did it!!! or should I really say we, as a family, did it!
